On the 2nd, President Lee Jae-myung refuted claims that the government's real estate policy had regressed, saying, "It's just a matter of policy choices where people both like and hate," but in a post on X (formerly Twitter), he introduced the related criticism, asking, "Is changing the policy stance unjust, and sticking to it is always right?" Previously, the government had lowered the maximum comprehensive real estate tax (CRT) reduction for non-residential single homes from 1.2 billion won to 900 million won and proposed a plan to increase the tax burden cap from 150% to 200%, but recently withdrew. Regarding this, President Lee pointed out, "There are criticisms such as 'Why is there inconsistency?' and 'It's a step back in reform,'" and added, "The changes to the comprehensive real estate tax for high-priced non-residential single-homes, multi-homes, or ultra-high-priced homes, and especially the reduction in capital gains tax reductions for single, ultra-high-value, and multi-home owners, are overlooked criticism." He continued, "Not just the hardline arguments, but the entire policy content should be examined to understand why housing prices in areas like Gangnam are currently plummeting, Look into the reasons too," and asked, "If we had kept 1.2 billion won and 150% from the start, would there have been criticism?" President Lee emphasized, "We need to consider whether it is appropriate to ignore what's important and criticize only a tiny fraction without considering the whole," adding, "It's not unconditional condemnation based on falsehood and slander, but proper politics and a competition to do well."
