On the 19th, President Lee Jae-myung said in his first part of the '2026 Youth Day' commemorative speech held at the Blue House State Guesthouse, "Today's young people in Korea are the most outstanding generation I know, and also the generation who live the hardest," but added, "It is truly unfair that the results have been reversed." He continued, "They are the generation that has studied the longest, and they are the one waiting the longest to find employment," and added, "They are the generation that has prepared the best, have the least possessions, and compete the most fiercely, yet the future is the most anxious." President Lee mentioned polarization and industrial restructuring driven by artificial intelligence (AI), diagnosing that opportunities for the new generation are decreasing, and added, "The issue of youth is not simply a matter of a specific group or group, but a fundamental question of whether Korea can remain a country that continues to grow and develop sustainably." In the second part of the event, after hearing opinions from young people on jobs and housing, he said, "The government Depending on how you do it, you can create a completely different world." President Lee emphasized, "As opportunities become scarce, competition intensifies, and while the powerful older generation can endure it to some extent, the powerless youth generation and the new generation are being pushed into increasingly difficult situations," adding, "We must solve fundamental structural problems." He explained that to ease concentration in the metropolitan area, the administrative capital and public institutions will be relocated, and the industrial base in local areas should be expanded, while also changing the education system. When asked by a young man, 'What was the way you overcame difficulties?' he replied, "Looking back, I think I endured," but added, "Now, things are much harder than the time I lived   , so saying 'endure' feels too cruel," and added, "I will look for more areas that the government can do through policy and budget." President Lee also has a separate system to address youth policies . He reportedly announced plans to establish such systems, saying, "I am even considering creating a separate system under the Prime Minister's leadership," and added, "We will fix the current unreasonable systems so that young people are not left out of opportunities."
