Department of Stage Costumes


The official name of this department is Diploma of Live Production and Technical Service (Costueme for Performance).


This is a hands-on course designed and made for performers on stage, meaning you create your own costumes. You will learn the history of costumes, period costume making, film and TV wardrobes, and expertise in sewing, and spend a year in this practical course designing, composing, making, and altering various costumes.


You will receive training at Melbourne Polytechnic's Prahan campus, creating a bustling and vibrant artistic community atmosphere. Modern sewing machines and clothing dyeing Melbourne Polytechnic's costume facilities feature individual workspaces and workshops equipped with wet spaces for garment dyeing, pattern cutting tables, material design and cutting, and garment storage. You will learn hands-on techniques applicable on-site from instructors. You will learn from instructors with industry-specific expertise, so you will have the opportunity to work at industry-related events. As a result, you will have the opportunity to work at events.


This course also qualifies you to work in the theater, film, and television industries, as well as the wide range of clothing and fashion industries, including costume, evening wear and daywear production and design, hat and headpiece production. . Admission Requirements for the Department of Stage Costume

- High school graduate / equivalent education equivalent to Australian Year 12

- Interviews and portfolio screening are included

- English: IELTS 5.5 (all sections 5.0 or higher)

- Duration: 11 months

- Timing: Every February

- Tuition: $20,072 (as of 2022)
