The Australian government's reduction of international student visas is expected to focus on those applying for student visas simply to extend their stay, but some immigrants are abusing student visas as 'permanent temporary' visas, and the government announced it will strengthen screening for students who extend their visas more than once. To reduce the number of international students, the criteria for issuing graduate school visas will also become stricter, with the age for obtaining a graduate school visa lowered from 50 to 35, and the English proficiency test for admission will be raised. An Australian government official said, "It is rare for additional student visas to lead to professional advancement, and only when they are used simply to stay in Australia, There are many," and added, "Private vocational education providers are helping 'non-students' enter the Australian labor market through student visas."

To address this, the Australian government plans to introduce a 'True Student Test' for all international students, adjust the employment period and eligibility for student visa holders, and restrict temporary graduate visa holders from switching back to student visas while in the country. The Australian government stated that these measures will prevent people whose primary purpose is employment rather than studying from accessing Australia's international education system, allowing them to return to their home countries.
